Let’s get personal
I’ve been using the moniker “The Doorkeep” for my personally driven work, freelance, and anything else on the punkier side of things. I’ve been connected to the underground scene in Chicago for the last decade - creating art for comedians, bands, and even a punk band’s concept project as a bagel shop.
In college, I was working on branding my side projects. Looking up meanings of my name I found that in olde english, a Tyler was also known as “A Doorkeep” - it was catchy, a little confusing, and sounded cool despite it’s ambiguity. I’ve been using it ever since.
I’ve been a co-producer of RAD. A fun show for the last decade. A DIY alt comedy variety show, we’ve set out to be a welcoming show for weirdos trying out new things in comedy, all to be the stepping stone to larger venues and higher profile shows. Past performers include Sarah Sherman, Pro Wrestler Colt Cabana, Meg Stalter, and a man who screamed my country tis of thee while facing away from the audience and immediately leaving. It’s a good time.
When not making posters, I run tech during our live shows working on lights and sound.
For the past few years I’ve volunteered for the non profit punk zine Razorcake. Producing layouts and covers, it’s been incredibly gratifying to have made my own mark on a world that’s been crucial to my own identity.
File under miscellaneous, here’s a collection of art for bands, labels for cocktail syrups at my home bar, and some self driven illustrations and collages.
